Professional English

Bath Academy provides a range of courses for specific professions such as business, medicine, law and the armed forces. We recognise that people have individual learning objectives and so we are happy to provide courses to meet these varying requirements. The following courses are available year round and combine group tuition in the mornings with one-to-one individual tuition in the afternoon (group tuition is available in the afternoons if the demand is sufficient).
All these courses include:

• 15 hours of General English per week in the morning 9.30 - 12.30
• 10 hours of individual tuition per week in the afternoon (typically 13.30 - 15.30 but these classes can be flexibly scheduled)
• Regular homework
• Certificate of Attendance on completion of the course
• Personalised report suggesting ideas for future learning

English For Dentists

By the end of this course you will be able to:

• Communicate more effectively with patients and put patients at ease
• Explain dental procedures, e.g. fillings, root canals, extraction
• Use a wider range of dental vocabulary
• Understand and use more colloquial language
• Communicate more effectively with dental health care professionals
• Understand texts from dental journals
• Prepare for the UBELT examination (if required)

English For Pharmacists

By the end of this course you will be able to:

• Communicate more effectively with customers and understand their needs
• Make recommendations for particular medicines
• Explain guidelines for taking medicines and side-effects
• Use a wider range of medical vocabulary
• Understand and use more colloquial language
• Communicate more effectively with other health care professionals
• Understand texts from medical  journals
• Prepare for the UBELT examination (if required)

English For Medicine

• Use a wider range of medical vocabulary
• Understand and use more colloquial language
• Communicate more effectively with health service professionals
• Communicate more effectively with patients
• Understand texts from medical journals

English for Business

• Discuss the most important aspects of your business
• Describe the products, services and processes in your company
• Talk more confidently to international colleagues in business and social situations
• Handle customers more confidently on the telephone
• Take an active part in meetings and conference calls
• Give a presentation in English

English for Law

• Understand and explain legal procedures more effectively
• Understand and use definitions and systems
• Use and understand a range of legal vocabulary
• Give a presentation on an aspect of the law

English for the Armed Forces

• Describe military organisations, technology and equipment
• Understand and give instructions and orders
• Receive and deal with visitors
• Describe your own career and responsibilities
• Describe and develop courses of action in varying contexts
